Thanks to extensive research, the benefits of spinal manipulation are easier to measure through scientific evidence. If you’re a patient of mine, you know how good your body feels after being adjusted. But if you’re curious about why that might be or just curious about chiropractic in general, you might wonder what happens to your body after leaving my office.
Scientists are able to study the neurochemical benefits of spinal manipulation and they found that chiropractic adjustments cause a surge of beta-endorphins. Beta-endorphins have been found to produce a wide range of benefits, one of which is analgesia, or the numbing of pain. So when I adjust you, your spine releases endorphins. The endorphins tell your body to feel good, allowing you to resume your daily activities without the stress and inconvenience of debilitating pain levels.
This instant and relatively long-lasting pain relief allows the surrounding tissues to relax also, which helps reduce tension headache and muscle spasms. Each person’s body is different; sometimes this pain relief will last for up to a month, other times just a few days. As a result, I work with you on a regular adjustment schedule to encourage your body to release endorphins habitually.
Endorphins are also released through proper nutrition and exercise. Living well through regular adjustments, proper nutrition and healthy fitness levels is the ideal way to live life to the fullest. If stress regularly effects your mentality, or if pain interferes with your enjoyment of daily activities, you need to teach your body to release beta-endorphins to boost your mood, reduce pain and minimize stress. The regular release of endorphins is even proven to reduce the risk and/or symptoms of clinical depression.
It’s never too soon to tap into your body’s optimal wellness potential. With the benefits of new research, I am able to work with my patients in order to help them achieve their most fulfilling lives possible. To get the most out of life, it’s not just about pain management; it’s about feeling good, being stress free and feeling confident in the capabilities of your body and mind.

It’s interesting that you point out that receiving a chiropractic adjustment can help relieve back pain. I’ve been having a lot of back pain ever since I fell on the tennis court recently, so I’m considering going to a chiropractor. I’m going to look for a good chiropractor in my area that treats back pain.
