Did you know that staying hydrated keeps your body resilient against infection? Water is absolutely essential to all functions of the body, but with school back in session, we all could use some extra reinforcement for our immune system.
When we are dehydrated, our lymphatic system doesn’t communicate with other systems or messengers, causing us to not flush out toxins as regularly. Our body already has an excellent defense system against disease and illness, but without sufficient water, the system isn’t as strong nor as efficient!
Now is the best time to make hydration a priority. Unless told otherwise by your doctor, aim to consume at least half your body weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 130lbs, try to drink at least 65 oz per day! If you find yourself not drinking as much water because of its “plain” taste, try one of these flavorful water infusion recipes. We recommend infusing your water overnight with fresh fruits, herbs, tea bags and even veggies (hello, cucumbers!) and enjoying throughout the next day.
A simple recipe that will help boost immunity and digestion:
Vitamin C Sunrise Water
1 liter of water
3-4 slices each of lemon and lime
1 half cup of pineapple
*optional add fresh mint leaves
Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate overnight to infuse. Enjoy!
A more complex recipe, but one that will have more immunity boosting effects:
Lemon Ginger Green Tea Infusion
½ tsp grated ginger root
1 green tea bag
3-4 slices of lemon
Instructions:
Bring one liter of water to a boil-necessary to infuse ginger.
Add ½ tsp fresh grated ginger and a green tea bag to boiling water. Remove from heat and add 3-4 slices of lemon and allow water to cool to room temperature. Refrigerate overnight.
Enjoy!
